The Cedartown Police Department consist of several Administrative positions.  Our administration makes sure that the department is operating smoothly and efficiently, and they also make sure that all policies are being followed.  The administration also is in charge of keeping up, and purchasing any equipment that the department may need, and also handles the police department's budget and other business.
 


Chief Henry King

2007 Optimist Club Officer of the Year

Henry King was appointed Chief of the Cedartown Police Dept. on October 2, 2008.  He is also the first African American to have this title in the departments history.  He started his law enforcement career with the department in 1975 where he started off as a uniformed patrolman.  He worked his was up the chain of command during his years of service starting at Corporal, all the way to Assistant Chief, which he was appointed the position in October 2005.  As Chief, he is now in charge of the Department.


Assistant Chief James Newsome, Jr.

James Newsome was appointed Assistant Chief and started his career at the Cedartown Police Department on October 20, 2008.  He started his career in law enforcement with the Polk County Sheriff's office in 1990 as a jail officer.  He progressed through the ranks at the Sheriff's Office and was Administrative Captain prior to being appointed as Assistant Chief at the Cedartown Police Department.  Currently he is a member of several different organizations including Board of Directors at the Polk County Women's Shelter, Polk County Child Abduction Response Team, Child Fatality Review Board, Domestic Violence Task Force, and serves as an Instructor for the Georgia Sheriff's Association and Chairman of the Police Academy Advisory Board.  As Assistant Chief, he is the second person in charge at the Cedartown Police Department.

Captain Greg Cooper

Captain Greg Cooper is also part of the Cedartown Police Department's administration.  He has been in law enforcement since November 1983, and has been employed with the Cedartown Police Department since April 1994, where he started out on uniformed patrol.  Captain Cooper's duties now include applying for grants, overseeing the administration, and overseeing the investigations division.  Captain Cooper is also in charge of the training that the officers need at the department.  Captain Cooper is the Cedartown Police Department's Explorer Post Advisor.  The Explorer Post has been involved with the community since 1998.

Lieutenant Henry Runyan

Henry Runyan is currently the Lieutenant for the Cedartown Police Department.  His main duty is to oversee the uniformed patrol.  Lieutenant Runyan has been working with the Cedartown Police Department since 1990 where he started as a uniformed patrolman.  He has worked himself up in the ranks over the years and was promoted to Lieutenant in April 2006.


Detective Division

The Cedartown Police Department has 3 Investigators with a total of over 58 years of law enforcement experience.  The detectives handle a variety of crimes including, but not limited to burglaries, robberies, sex crimes, frauds, and other serious crimes.  The Cedartown Police Department's Drug Unit also falls under our investigation's division.  Our drug unit consists of highly skilled and trained officers that investigate, and make arrest on persons who use or distribute illegal drugs.  With the help of our drug tip line and feed back from citizens, along with the feedback from our uniformed officers, the Cedartown Drug Unit has made numerous arrest in the past year.
